I am so glad you are here! Thank you for reading and supporting my writing, you are deeply appreciated.
Dear ones,
If you are a new subscriber, a special WELCOME! I recently started a new series around the Major Arcana cards of the Tarot. Looking deeply into each archetype, its specific qualities and how they relate to our lives. There is no particular order, today we will be looking at the Wheel of Fortune. Last post was on The Fool.
The Wheel of Fortune

The wheel continually turns. Waves of endings and beginnings. Change, perpetually moving as the warp and weft, weaving a tapestry of our lives.
These cycles of nature and our existence are in constant motion. Each deck shown above, shows these cycles in some form or another. The seasons, zodiac, moon, witches sabbats, elements (air, fire, water and earth) and alchemical symbols (mercury, sulfur, nitrogen and salt).
I received this card in a reading earlier this month, this is what I wrote in my journal…
The Wheel reminds me that nothing stays the same. Impermanence is how life moves. Feelings come & go, let them. Stay centered, be in that middle liminal space, the eye of the storm.
Let us look more deeply into the qualities of the Wheel of Fortune…
Fate, Karma, Free Will, Fortune and Destiny
Are the things that transpire in our life founded in destiny or fate? Predetermined or serendipitous? And do we have choice?
Destiny and karma are tied together. Karma as the law of cause and effect. Destiny as the consequences of our actions across lifetimes. I am sure you have all heard the phrases, “What goes around comes around” and “what you sow, so shall you reap.” But is our destiny fixed in this incarnation? Are our successes and failures up to karma, fate or free will? Can we change our destiny? These are all questions that have been considered, debated and argued about for millenniums.
As you all should know by now, I go liminal! Taking sides is like missing out on the whole picture. Each one of us is not a microcosm to ourselves. If we each lived in our own bubble, cause and effect would be quite apparent. But the truth is we live in a macrocosm that includes nature, life’s cycles and the many choices others are making around us. Far more is happening behind the scenes than we are aware of. Everything is interdependent. We affect one another.
Pain and suffering are part of life. It is inescapable, there are no guarantees. Sometimes we cause our own pain, sometimes we hurt others, and circumstances do happen beyond our control. We might not have dominion with what is unfolding, but we can choose how we respond to it. Remembering that love is what holds all of this together. The beauty is we can uplift each other.
Being Centered
The Wheel of Fortune advises us not to travel with the momentum of the outer rim, but to move to the slower pace of the hub. In this way we do not succumb to the wilder movements of the perimeter. Attempting to force the wheel into a direction of our choosing. Centered we are more aware of our strengths and weaknesses, limits and boundaries. We then can opt to move accordingly.
By slowing down, we are more able to find peace within chaos. By anchoring into the moment, we root more fully into our bodies. Grounding also helps to defuse and channel energies within our field that are not even ours, like social expectations and cultural pressures. Allowing the soil of this planet to receive and recycle this energy, thus calming our nervous system.
We are living in amazing but turbulent times. It is more important than ever to see the commonality that we share, our joys and suffering. Allowing for both the challenges and the celebrations. Relaxing into their co-existence, not resisting and not holding onto.
Humbleness and Acceptance
Take time to pause... Be present and aware... Breathe, just breathe... A sacrifice is being called for. An offering must be made. Peel off the layers of conclusions, this grasping for any answer. Shed the patterns of dominion, the need to control this precious moment. A purification is at hand. By donning the sacred dress of humbleness and acceptance, devotion rises from the heart. An unpretentiousness of simply existing. What is it like... To be stripped of resisting and clinging? To walk side by side with the now rather than ahead? Being both witness to this amazing unfurling and part of its ongoing cycle? Each encounter, a teacher Every situation, a guide Co-existent with every ray of sunlight, with each darkened storm. Welcoming in life as it is.
Impermanence
Life is not always easy, at times it is just outright difficult! Like when I witnessed my mother slowly lose her daily functions and shrivel into bones. Then when my dad went down so fast it was hard to keep up with what was needed. Death is not pretty. Yet it is real, a beautiful act of relinquishment.
Life is impermanent! Cycles upon cycles. Birth, growth, maturity, fading, dying, and then repeat. It is a circle. Birth leads to death, death leads to birth. The ongoing movements of living on this planet! Being human is messy, but that does not mean something is wrong. What makes it a challenge is when we try to force these amazing rhythms into a container called permanence.
An invitation to open to a deeper honesty and authenticity. Being present even if we don’t like or want what is transpiring. Change is inevitable. Attempting to make it different is a bypass, where we miss out on the gifts that are inherent right here and now. Whatever support, love and guidance that is needed comes from humbly relaxing into the moment. Embracing the human condition that we all share together. Again lifting each other up!
Questions for you:
How are the qualities of the The Wheel of Fortune showing up in your life today?
What is your relationship with change and impermanence?
Are you being kind and compassionate with yourself?
Would love to know your thoughts and feelings. Let’s have a conversation…

Love this, Julie! I've been thinking about this card lately and all the deep symbolism on it. There's so much there! Layers upon layers. One way it's showing up in my life lately is when I noticed the frozen leaves on my morning walk and how everything was so still. I had the thought that, for the trees, that stillness is sort of like the space between heartbeats. Then I thought about and felt the space between my own heartbeats and really noticed the fractal nature of the cycle of heartbeats throughout the universe. Thank you for this wonderful liminal exploration of the wheel!
beautifully written. the wheel of fortune came up as an energetic imprint on my birthday for this unfolding year! a beautiful synchronicity to now read this piece. it told me about the greater weavings of my destiny. as in, the medicine I am here to share. I feel this card is a beautiful embodiment of these threads of fate that are our souls journey. like the spinning wheel that weaves threads (direction) from a mass of wool/energy. what is meant to be. the wheel that turns and twirls us towards our purpose. a beautiful representation I've heard for this card is the three fates in greek mythology. weaving together our past, present , and future. I really loved your piece about impermanence. its always a good reminder for us humans who have tendencies to hold on and control. a dance between allowing life to flow as it is meant to while finding our ways of directing the energy towards our greater vision. the middle path of presence.
