Dear ones,
If you are a new subscriber, a special WELCOME! Today I am riffing on my last post, Dream Incubation. Using one of the messages I received in dream time. Diving deeper, exploring the nuances, looking at it from various perspectives. So, remember to Slow Down and enjoy the simplicities of life! Love to you all!
Fast Times at Planet Earth
Spoofing here off the title, Fast times at Ridgemont High, a coming of-age movie. And isn’t this where we as a world find ourselves today! Coming of-age! Traveling at breakneck speed, forgetting how to slow down! We’ve stepped on the gas pedal of (fill in the blank) and we don’t know how to let up or hit the brake!
I reflect on my younger years. Life was incredibly slower than it is today. As a teenager and young adult, I didn’t plug into social media simply because it didn’t exist. There was no internet, no personal computers, no cell phones. To connect with someone, I called them on the land-line phone that my family all shared together, or I wrote letters. For current news I waited till the 6:00 news report on television, or the newspapers arrival the next morning. Even further back when I was a kid the main games I played involved a board, a ball or the woods!
Considering my grandmother’s life, that feels like an even slower time. When did this fast paced, treadmill, multiple deadlines, sink or swim mentalities start? Including the toxic unhealthy workplaces that promote putting your work, production and employer’s expectations ahead of your own life, health, family and friends. Just to meet a deadline?
What about all these extreme knee-jerk animosities that have risen from an ever widening social and political polarization? Topics which have become impossible to talk about, pitting family members against each other, neighbor against neighbor, and political parties that are unable to compromise. Corporate structures that no longer care about the consumer, because they own them. The consumer has now become the commodity.
These past years we’ve seen massive acceleration. The more unhurried times I mentioned earlier, the rate was minimal compared to the exponential momentum we are seeing today. Where science and technology are growing at such a rapid rate any accountability gets lost in the smoke. Where are the ethics and acumen? (I am sure this was seeded many many years ago even before my grandmother’s time. Yet, this is not the focus of this post. )
I feel like I have entered the Matrix! As if we are all cast under some reptilian spell. But I feel all is not lost! It comes down to simple common sense. Instead of blindly following a prescribed blueprint laid out by the profit makers, there is a certain activism that is possible here. Not one that takes sides or sacrifices ones health for a cause or attempts to take on Goliath organizations. You probably already know what I am going to say…
S L O W D O W N
It is a grass roots way of collectivism. Joining together hand in hand. A mycelial network that eats away at the foundation of patriarchal and hierarchical corporate conglomerates. Not through protests but through shifting out of the reptilian mind set. Grounding into our animal body. Finding the simplicity of living with the natural world.
I am in no way saying not to use technology or to take action, remember this is not about polarizing things here. Technology and science are amazing, it is how they are used and manipulated that I question.
Here are some ways to slow down.
SIMPLIFY
This is about subtraction. Not about becoming defeated or lessened in any way. Instead by decluttering and disengaging from what eats up our precious commodities of time and space, we open to a wider field of living!
If so, then I am invited to choose otherwise. Seeing that sustained contentment is not found in instant gratification. That it is okay to take a nap, to say no to another purchase that takes up closet space and make quality more important than quantity. Instead of scrolling, try strolling!
It comes down to a very straightforward and uncomplicated formula, identify what’s truly important to the heart, then eliminate what is not. For me it is shifting out of what I have been conditioned to want, into what my soul is longing for. There are many many responses…For me it is walking in the woods or by the ocean. Creating art, writing poems, baking a treat! Being with friends and family…
BE PRESENT, RECONNECT
At times it feels like the entire world is competing for my attention. All these e-mails, texts, notifications, instant news, messages and alerts. This means putting screens aside and asking, “what keeps me from being present?”
I have found that creating intentional space lets the natural process of “being” arise. Opening the door to curiosity, dipping my foot into the pool of wonder, allowing myself to investigate this precious moment. This point in time that will never exist again. Through disconnecting, I reconnect with life, nature and what I really am.
Inquiring, what does it mean to Be… Here… Now…? Where there is no destination to get to because the beginning and ending are in this mystical dance, weaving the web of life together, hand in hand. An interdependence of somatic connection. Encouraging me to discover that all that I have been searching outside myself for is contained inside this sacred and holy present moment.
There is a commitment needed here, for this intention needs continual refreshing. An ongoing choice to step out of the matrix and into life! Out of the analyzing and categorizing mind into our animal body. Waking up from the many externals that contend for my awareness and see that I am inherently connected with everything.
NOTICE, FEEL & RELISH
Stop. Pause. Pay attention. Simply breathe, inhale, exhale. Bring in this rejuvenating life force, all the way down to your toes, out to the fingertips up to the top of your head. Then releasing, loosening, allowing the muscles to relax. Simply, putting down the weight of this world.
A summons to notice what I am feeling, seeing, hearing, smelling and tasting. Not in a detached, observing way but opening to the aliveness that is all around and within me. Being in the body, this magnificent temple of immanence and to relish it! Our bodies and our feelings are not something to escape from. We reside in these amazing sensory systems that inherently connect with the vital force of life itself. Let us plug in here!
Questions for you…
What are ways you can simply simplify your life?
What supports you in connecting with yourself and life around you?
How embodied to you currently feel? Do you feel at home in your body temple?
Would love to know your thoughts and feelings. Let’s have a conversation…

This is wonderful, Julie! The advice to slow down is so important and you've taken the extra step here of offering actual ways to do that. I so appreciate that part! "...allowing myself to investigate this precious moment." Stop doing and be curious. That's the perfect way into presence! Thank you so much for this. ❤️
Oh Julie… great post and I’m going to start using “instead of scrolling try strolling” 💗
