Julie, when I was at school our school motto was "Fortiter et Suaviter" - Nothing is as strong as gentleness and nothing is as gentle as real strength.
It was only a few years ago that I really GOT the true meaning of this...To be gentle requires strength and to be strong requires gentleness. It is the liminal line. The infinity symbol. The threshold. It is a power that when we accept within us we are able to stand tall in courage because we know that despite the fear we can "move that mountain" (so to speak) in a way that INVITES CHANGE and GROWTH and LOVE.
Thank you, Julie...a great reminder, and for me a great acceptance of such energies within me. x
What a great motto to be brought up with! And as any good wine and any wise crone would say, "things get better with age!" In other words, our understanding deepens as we get older and we see more fully into the nuances. Yes this is a powerful motto, one to contemplate and live through time. It is the first I have heard of it, but truly the theme of my post. "Fortiter et Suaviter" thanks for sharing that Sam! ❤
I love this, Julie! ♥️ The part about sacred rage was especially moving to me. I had never thought about it in those terms before. Thank you so much for these amazing insights!
Thanks Jenna! A while back, I took a whole course in sacred rage. It was life changing for me, turned my whole life upside down and inside out! It dug to the core of how women in general, which included me for sure, tend to default to grief. Yet under the grief is suppressed anger. All of this was eye opening to me. To learn that true/pure anger is love in action as sacred rage! Standing up for what is true! Mama bear defending her cubs!
“Strength as the ability to meet impermanence as the catalyst for transformation. Enabling us to live from our unlimited potential.”…. Love this Julie …and the reasoning behind RWS vs Thoth deck switch.
Also so important as you say to be in touch with one’s anger as an expression of what’s wrong… anger doesn’t mean violence which so often gets conflated 💕👍🏼
Thanks Becky. Agree! Yeah, it was time to do another archetype. So after our group meeting on the Chariot and Strength, I felt drawn to go deeper into the Strength card. Needless to say it has been POWERFUL to work with this archetype this past week.
This is written so beautifully Julie! A lot of the courage I’ve been shown lately has been about facing unresolved trauma from childhood that I have been opening up myself to understanding on a deeper level. I continue to plunge into my healing process for the sake of my own health, but as well as being able to guide others into their unknowns in an empathetic and safe way. I do this out of pure desire for the health of the collective ♥️
Thanks Christine! And I relate to what you said here! The courage to meet what is unspeakable! I feel the same way. The healing that I deepen into, my willingness to be with what is challenging, a fuller acceptance of myself and the impermanence of life, does support me. But I also do this because I know it ripples out within this web we are all connected by. It is my main activism! Blessing to you sister healer! ♥️
Reading this brings to the forefront the strength to continue on the path when everything is crumbling in the outside world. That inner determination that you can conquer anything that is thrown at you and the courage will rise up from somewhere. Harnessing that energy to protect yourself and loved ones when it’s needed, but not done from a place of aggression, but love. And there we are again. Thank you. 💫🙏
Yes, and there we are again! Love is the root of it all, as well as everything else! Our culture tends to see love as something to get rather than what we are. An emotions that's just nurturing and compassionate rather than the glue that hold all of life together and can be that mama bear fiercely protecting her cubs. Love is the most powerful strength there is!
